Assurance

The corner of the proposition that answers why should I believe you: credibility, return on investment, and the measures both sides will use.

Assurance is the third corner of the value proposition triangle, and the one suppliers add last and thinnest. It answers the question the customer is too polite to ask out loud: why should I believe you? Three things answer it. Credibility, which is evidence, case studies and track record. Return on investment, which is the payback in the customer’s numbers, not yours. And value capture, which is the measures both sides agree to use to check the promise was kept.

The third is the tell. Only a supplier who believes the promise volunteers the scoreboard. Offer the customer the CPIs you expect to be judged on, and the baseline you will measure from, and you have said something about your confidence that no case study can. Withhold them and the customer will draw the obvious conclusion, however good the references.
